Equipment Corporation of America (ECA) celebrated its 100-year anniversary with more than 400 guests in Pittsburgh, Pa., on June 1. The attendees represented industry leaders, family and friends, from the U.S., Canada and Europe. The event kicked off at the Heinz History Center amidst the symbols of Pittsburgh’s rich industrial heritage, and then guests were shuttled to the Omni William Penn Hotel for dinner and dancing. The highlights of the event included a colorful talk and slideshow presentation by CEO Roy Kern with photos and stories from the firm’s history; a few words from Roy’s father, Al, who served as CEO from 1965 to 1986; entertaining comments from President and long-time employee Ben Dutton; and the presentation of engraved platters commemorating 100 years of business to the Kern family by Vice President of Sales & Marketing Jeff Harmston and Marketing Manager Kelly Simon. The 2018 Zero Lost Time Awards are awarded to companies that have achieved five or celebrate a century in business, our commitment to safety is as young and fresh as ever,” said CEO Roy Kern. “Our continued success with these ASDC awards is a testament to our efforts to maintain a safe working environment in our U.S. and Canadian operations.” Commerce Construction Corporation announced the appointment of Paul J. Martino to president and chief operating officer. Martino has been with the firm since 2006, and most recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer. He has more than 28 years of experience in the marine, heavy civil and environmental construction industry, where he has worked on a wide variety of public and private projects, which have spanned the Mid-Atlantic into New England. Martino provides corporate leadership in the planning and execution of all areas of operations including estimating, pro- duction, quality, safety, contracting, owner relations, scheduling, resource manage- ment, change management, cash flow, profit and overall business management. In addition, Martino provides inclusion and direction of corporate administration including human resourcing, information systems, recruitment and career development.
