Kurt Levins, P.E., joined GeoStructures as a north- east sales engineer. Levins began his career as a consultant executing geo- technical investigations and designs for public agencies and private developers in the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania regions. He then worked for a leading foundation steel supplier where he supported design, construction and supply of major storm protection, bulkhead and deep foundation projects in North America and the Caribbean. Levins holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. Mohamad Hussein, P.E., executive vice president, GRL Engineers, was pre- sented the Presidential Award for Distinguished Contractors Association (PDCA) 20 Annual International Conference and Expo on May 18, 2016. Hussein has managed GRL’s Florida office since 1987. During his over 30 years of experience, he has worked on more than 1,000 deep foundation pro- jects in 35 states in the U.S. and 20 countries. Hussein is a registered professional engineer in the states of Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, Alabama, New Jersey and Mississippi. Service at the Pile Driving th The student engineering team from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign (UIUC) submitted the win- ning design for an aesthetic and functional excavator cab that will be 3-D printed and on display at IFPE and CONEXPO- CON/AGG at the Tech Experience Pavilion in March 2017 in Las Vegas. Student engineering teams from across the country submitted their designs for a futuristic excavator cab and human machine inter- face. A panel of industry experts judged the competition. Members of the UIUC team will receive a $2,000 cash prize, donated by the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA), and will have the opportunity to travel to Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee to observe the printing of their design. The Shamsher Prakash Foundation announced two 2016 Lifetime Achieve- ment Award winners. Dr. W. D. Liam Finn started the f irst program of geotechnical earthquake engineering in Canada at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver where he pioneered the development of dynamic effective stress analysis with the program DESRA in 1975. He was head of civil engineering and dean of applied science at UBC. In 1999, he was appointed as the first Anabuki Professor of foundation geody- namics at Kagawa University, Takamatsu, Japan. He was editor of the International Journal of Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering and has published over 350 papers on seismic topics. Finn has received several awards including the Legget Medal, the highest honor from the Canadian Geotechnical Society, and the H. B. Seed medal from ASCE. Finn consults interna- tionally, especially on the seismic safety of dams and liquefaction problems. Dr. Richard (Dick) Woods is an emer- itus professor and former chair of the department of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he served on the faculty from 1967 through 2002. His research interests were focused on foundation dynamics, vibration measurements, blasting and other vibration damage, measurement of dynamic soil properties, site character- ization for seismic mitigation, and applica- tions of geophysics in geotechnical engi- neering. He held offices in the geotechnical division of ASCE and ISSMGE. He is a mem- ber of the National Academy of Engineering and is distinguished member of ASCE. Equipment Corporation of America (ECA) has promoted Jamie Govey t o v i c e p r e s i d e n t , accounting. Govey started her career with ECA in 1998 as accounting manager and was promoted to company controller in 2008. Among Govey’s key contributions was the implementation and employee training for a new financial software system. She holds a B.S. in accounting from West Virginia Northern College.
