WiDF Activities The Women in Deep Foundations (WiDF) Committee, chaired by Helen Robinson, P.E., of Schnabel Engineering, hosts its second Networking Reception at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12. The reception is open to men and women interested in promoting the retention of women in deep foundations careers. Attendees must RSVP in advance. The WiDF Committee will present the second round of professional development grants to two worthy recipients at the reception: Sarah Ramp from Menard and Laura Wagner-Bartz from HNTB Co rpo r a t i on. Runners up are Morgan Race from Braun Intertec, Lucy Wu from HNTB Corporation and Rachel Bisnett from MWH/ Stantec. Many thanks to Maysill Pascal, P.E., from Menard who leads the grant selec- tion task force. A speed networking event is being held during the reception with the goal of encouraging members to establish new connec- tions among various member types: engineers, contractors, manufacturer/ equipment suppliers/service providers, researchers and owners. Nametag lanyards will be sold as a fundraiser for the DFI Educational Trust WiDF Fund, which is used for the professional development grant program and other networking events throughout the year. All men and women are encouraged to purchase and wear a lanyard as a visible symbol of support for the WiDF efforts. We encour- age you to wear your lanyard at other industry events to start a discussion about the goals and positive influences of the WiDF Committee. Business Meeting The Business Meeting Luncheon is on Friday, October 14. During this meeting, DFI president, John Wolosick, from Hayward Baker, will update the mem- bership on the state of DFI, and treasurer, Matthew Janes, from Isherwood Associates, will summarize the organization’s financial performance. DFI vice president, Dan Brown, from Dan Brown and Associates, will present a brief overview of technical activities and introduce the technical committee and working group chairs. Outgoing and incoming chairs and trustees will be announced and recognized. Hal Hunt Lecture The WiDF Committee is honored to sponsor and welcome this year’s Hal Hunt lecturer, Dr. Mae Jemison, NASA astronaut and phy- sician, and the first female speaker in the 25-year history of the lecture, which is focused on com- munication. Thank you to Vanessa Lucido from Roc Equipment who led the WiDF’s fundraising task force. The committee solicited corporate and individual sponsorships for this exciting event and received terrific support from our member firms.
