TEI Rock Drills was awarded an ISO 9001:2008 certification to “design, manu- facture and assemble rock drills, drilling attachments and limited access rigs.” The process of acquiring ISO certification took almost two years and was spearheaded by TEI production manager, Donna Rousse. TEI thanks Rousse and all of its employees who “bought- in” to establishing the ISO system for our manufac- turing. This system will continue to guide TEI’s growth in the future, enhancing customer satisfaction through continual improvement of this system. Skanska announced the promotions of several long-tenured employees within its civil construc- tion division in the West. Brian Freund was pro- moted to vice president of operations in California. With over 28 years in the industry, Freund has primarily focused on Southern California transit work and most recently led Skanska’s work on the Expo Line Phase 2 extension from Culver City, Calif., to Santa Monica. Also promoted to vice president of operations is 24-year industry veteran Chris Halpin. Starting with Skanska in the Northeast, Halpin has overseen pursuits and operations throughout the Skanska network from New York to California. Most recently, he served as division manager for Skanska’s civil operations in Arizona. Addi t ional ly, James Melvin was promoted to vice president of opera- tions and will focus on projects throughout the West while being based in Colorado. Bruce, Ph.D., D.GE, C.Eng., L.G., L.E.G., P.G., M.ASCE, president, Geosystems, was selected by the Geo-Institute Board of Governors as the 2015 Terzaghi Lecturer. The Lecture, titled “The Evolution of Specialty Geotechnical Construction Techniques: The ‘Great Leap’ Theory,” was delivered at the International Foundations Congress and Equipment Expo (IFCEE) on March 17, 2015, at the JW Marriott in San Antonio, Texas. The presentation was delivered to over 1,200 attendees, and has been made available for general information at www.geosystemsbruce.com. GeoStabilization International has expanded its services with the formation of a Grouting & Foundation Division. Led by Tom Szynakiewicz, P.E., D.GE, the division will primarily focus on using compaction and chemical grouting for soil stabil- ization and improvement as well as design/build installation of large diameter micropiles for underpinning and new foundation construction at limited- access sites. Szynakiewicz holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Colorado School of Mines. Langan Engineering & Environmental Services named Andrew J. Ciancia, P.E., LEED AP, as its chairman of the board of directors. Ciancia, manag- ing principal and co-leader of the firm’s New York City office, has been a director for 10 years and has served on multiple Langan leadership bodies. Additionally, he served on two New York City Department of Buildings Code Committees and was a member of the New York City Mayor’s Office Building Resiliency Task Force in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. Ciancia suc- ceeds George P. Kelley, P.E., managing principal, who had served as chairman of the board since 2003. Graeme Quickfall, MBA, joined GeoStabilization International as its Can- ada division operations manager. Quickfall has worked for over 30 years in the civil/geotechnical construction industry including the U.K., Australia and throughout the Pacific Islands. Graeme also helped develop the New Zealand national specification on ground improvement and has received multiple awards from Transit NZ for innovations in roadway landslide repair Subsurface Constructors announced that Kurt Amidon, P.E., joined its team as business develop- ment manager for the Northeast region and leader of the Massachusetts office. Amidon is a professional engineer with a B.S. in civil engineering from Utah State University and an M.S. in geotechnical engineering from University of Massachusetts. He has more than 18 years of experience as a geotechnical consultant. CTL Thompson an- nounced that Robert (Chip) Leadbetter will rejoin the firm to oversee its Helical Pier Lab, one of few facilities in the world accredited to test helical foundations as required by the International Accreditation Services (IAS). Leadbetter has served as a geotechnical engineer and expert for more than 20 years, including 6 years as North- ern Colorado division manager for CTL.
