The transition of leadership for several DFI technical committees th Mary Ellen Bruce Large, P.E., D.GE Director of Technical Activities [email protected] working with both prepackaged grouts and concrete admixtures, was president of the Spray-Cure/Chemmasters Company in Ohio from 1986–1995, and has been with Specrete since 1995. Mark Bryant, EIT, takes the helm of the Helical Piles and DFI President Matthew Janes (L) with new committee chairs: Anderson, Nodine, Bryant and Siegel Tiebacks Committee from Gary Seider, Hubbell Power Systems | Chance. Bryant is the anchor product manager for MacLean Power Systems (MPS). A graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham in civil and environmental engineering, he managed geotechnical engineering and construction material testing departments prior to joining MPS in 2011. Bryant is the past chair of the DFI Manufactures, Suppliers and Service Provider Committee. Mary Nodine, P.E., of GEI Consultants follows Victor Donald of Terracon as the chair of the Subsurface Characterization Committee. Nodine is a registered professional engineer with more than 15 years of consulting experience in geotechnical and geostructural engineering design and analysis. Her specialties include ground improvement design, deep foundation design, excavation support and retaining wall design geotechnical explorations, and finite element analysis of complex geostructural systems. President’s Award Recipients President’s Awards at a luncheon during the DFI 44 Annual Conference on October 17. Established in 2016, the President’s Awards are given at the Matthew Janes, M.B.A., P.Eng., president of DFI presented four DFI th Matthew Janes with outgoing chairs: Seider, Bryant, Donald and Blackburn Tim Siegel, P.E., G.E., D.GE, succeeds Tanner Blackburn, P.E., Ph.D., of Hayward Baker as chair of the Ground Improvement Committee. Siegel is a senior principal engineer with Dan Brown and Associates and serves as managing principal of its Knoxville operation. He specializes in pursuing deep foundation, ground improvement and retaining system projects. Besides starting his chairpersonship in the DFI Ground Improvement Committee, Tim is an active member of technical committees within the Geo-Institute and TRB. He is also co-editor of the DFI Journal with Anne Lemnitzer. John Anderson succeeds Mark Bryant, EIT, of Maclean Power Systems as the chair of the Manufacturers, Suppliers and Service Providers (MSSP) Committee. Anderson is the owner/president of Specrete-IP, the manufacturer of Intrusion-Aid Grout Fluidifiers used in augercast pile grouts and other foundation elements. He has over 40 years of experience in the concrete and grouting industry. He spent 8 years with Master Builders (now BASF) discretion of the DFI president to recognize the efforts and service of DFI members to advance the work of DFI. This year’s awards were presented to: Gerald Verbeek of Allnamics Pile Testing Experts received his President’s Award for his dedication and commitment to DFI as chair of the Testing and Evaluation Committee and his active involvement in numerous DFI events and activities. Verbeek jump started the dormant T&E committee in 2015 and fostered its growth to almost 40 active and enthusiastic members. He is an avid publisher and reviewer for DFI conference proceedings and develops workshops and panel discussions aimed at provoking technical debate and advancement. He is a strong contributor, who is always willing to lend his time and talents to DFI. David Paul, P.E., of Paul GeoTek Engineering was recognized for his commitment to DFI as trustee liaison for the Seepage Control Committee and International Grouting Committee, the Toronto groundwater working group, and the Chennai Metro working group.
