MASTERING THE CHALLENGE: Engineering for Complex Loading Conditions in the 21st Century Planning is well underway for the DFI Annual Conference on Deep Engineering for Complex Loading Conditions in the 21 Century. The 2018 conference will feature technical presentations on innovations and advancements that address performance-based design and construction of foundations subject to increasingly chal- lenging structural demands. The conference will also provide an international forum for a wide range of geo-professionals to present, discuss and debate all aspects of assessment, development, design Calif. The theme of the 43 conference is Mastering the Challenge: st Foundations taking place on October 24-27, 2017, in Anaheim, rd and mitigation for complex loading conditions in the 21 century. Several panel discussions are planned where invited specialists will interact with the audience to examine pressing issues in foundation industry practices. Abstracts for technical papers and panel sessions are being accepted throughFriday, December 15, 2017 www.dfi.org/annual2018 . Conference Chairs Anne Lemnitzer, Ph.D., P.E., assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of California Irvine and DFI trustee, is the conference chair, leading the organizing committee. She holds a Ph.D. in structural/geotechnical earthquake engineering from UCLA, an M.S. in civil (geotechnical) engineering from California State University, Long Beach, and a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Applied Science in Leipzig, Germany. Her current research interests lie at the interface of geotechnical and structural earthquake engineering with a particular focus on exper- imental testing. Prof. Lemnitzer is actively involved in DFI’s Seismic and Lateral Loads Committee and is co-editor of the DFI Journal. The conference program co-chairs are Rick Walsh, P.E., G.E., business development manager at Hayward Baker’s regional office in San Diego, and Reza Mortezaie, Ph.D., P.E., associate engineer at Albus-Keefe and Associates in Anaheim.
