Executive committee and trustees meet in NYC DFI Board of Trustees Meets in New York October 11, preceding the 41 Annual Conference in New York City. It was a productive meeting with many positive outcomes. DFI is currently in a good financial position, with membership growing steadily. DFI’s Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, st office and hire a professional staff. Dr. K.S. Rama Krishna, chair of DFI of India, was unable to attend. DFI’s Middle East Chapter, represented at the meeting by its chair, Emad Sharif, continues to grow in membership and activities. Regional Chapters The three regional chapters of DFI — Europe, India and the Middle East — have all been active. DFI Europe will host the next Europe-based international confer- ence in Rome in 2018 in partnership with EFFC (European Federation of Foundation Contractors). Frank Haehnig, chair of DFI Europe, was present to give his report. DFI of India is currently planning to open an New, Re-elected and Retiring Trustees Three newly-elected DFI trustees were announced: David Paul, P.E., of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Howard Perko, Ph.D., P.E., of Magnum Piering; and Lori Simpson, P.E., G.E., of Langan Treadwell Rollo. Gianfranco Di Cicco of GDConsulting; Frank Haehnig of Zueblin Spezialtiefbau; Gerry Houlahan, P.E., of Moffat & Nichol; and Michael Wysockey, Ph.D., P.E., of Thatcher Founda- tions were all re-elected by the membership to serve another term. Retiring trustees are former DFI President Robert Bittner, P.E., of Bittner-Shen Consulting Engineers; Bernard Hertlein, FACI, of GEI Consultants and the 2015 winne r of the DFI Distinguished Service Award; and Marine Lasne of Entrepose. Emad Sharif reports on DFI Middle East Other Business Tentative future annual conference loca- tions were discussed by the Board of Trustees. Los Angeles and San Francisco continue to be strong candidates for 2018. The DFI Educational Trust is healthy and growing, see page 67 for an update on recent news and activities. Other general business was conducted including: approval of minutes, plans for upcoming board and executive committee meetings, the agenda for the 2017 winter planning meeting, col- laboration with other industry organizations, DFI’s dues structure and governing documentation, the outcomes and plans for DFI’s many varied technical activities plus business opportunities in new world regions. Following the board meeting, Top to Bottom: David Paul, P.E., Howard Perko, Ph.D., P.E., and Lori Simpson, P.E., G.E. many trustees attended the meet- ing of the technical committee and working group chairs since they serve as board liaisons to the groups and were on hand to lend advice as needed to the chairs.
