Tamaro was DSA winner Dave Weatherby with colleagues from Schnabel Foundation Company And the Winner Is… Winners of DFI’s annual awards were celebrated at the Awards Banquet on Friday evening. Hayward Baker received the 2016 Outstanding Project Award (OPA) for its work at the International Market Place in Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii. Hayward Baker Project Engineer and DFI Young Professional member Alison Savage, P.E., presented an overview of this challenging micropile project. Wolosick presented David (Dave) Weatherby, P.E., of Schnabel Foundation Company with this year’s DFI Distin- guished Service Award (DSA). Wolosick noted his respect for Weatherby’s vast experience and contributions to the industry, and recognized him as a respected competitor and friend. Weatherby has been described by all as a true gentleman, and the audience celebrated as he shared his success with his personal and professional families, many of whom attended to join in recognizing his many achievements. The WiDF Committee presented two professional development grants to female foundation practitioners, Sarah Ramp, E.I.T. of Menard, and Laura Wagner-Bartz, P.E., of HNTB Corpor- ation. Robinson presented the grants at the WiDF reception, which included compli- mentary registration and a travel stipend to attend the conference. Wolosick presented four President’s Awards at the luncheon. This new award is given at the discretion of the DFI President to recognize the efforts and service of DFI members to advance the work of DFI. This year’s awards were presented to: • Lori Simpson, P.E., G.E., Langan Tread- well Rollo and chair of DFI’s Codes and Standards Committee, who led the multi-society effort to improve building codes and foundation practices. • Gary Seider, P.E., Hubbell Chance Civil Products and chair of DFI’s Helical Piles and Tiebacks Committee, who leads his very active committee to succeed on projects including industry-funded seismic research, and the development of a design guide, guide specifications, an engineering training course, and an annual seminar. Tamaro received his medal and recognition from the membership at the Awards Banquet. Theresa Engler, DFI executive director, announced a newly- established DFI Educational Trust scholar- ship at Manhattan College in Tamaro’s name.
