EDUCATIONAL TRUST Student Field Trip Graduate students in the geo- technical engineering program at the University of Houston learned about the installation of Augered Cast-in-Place (ACIP) piles during a September field trip. A.H Beck Foundation Company was installing ACIP piles for a new building on campus that provided a unique opportunity for students to see a large-scale deep foundation project up close. The students watched the test piles being installed and made their own grout samples that they later tested in their lab. The students also were onsite to observe Students onsite at A.H. Condon Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund honoring the late Mi cha e l “Mike ” Condon for hi s contributions to the deep foundations industry. The Fund was established with a generous donation of $50,000 received from Condon-Johnson and Associates, Inc. The donation is part of a pledge from Condon-Johnson totaling $100,000. The Condon Fund will provide scholarship awards to deserving students enrolled fulltime in an undergraduate or graduate civil engineering program and who are interested in pursuing a career in the deep foundations industry. The scholarship is limited to students attending the following colleges: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Pomona, San Diego State University, Santa Clara University, University of California-Davis, Oregon State University, Washington State University, Montana Tech, University of Colorado-Boulder and Virginia Tech. the high-strain dynamic tests performed on the same test piles they watched being installed. New Jersey Golf Outing The DFI Educational Trust and ACE Mentor Program NJ Golf Outing at the Royce Brook Golf Club in August raised over $10,000. Proceeds from the outing California Golf Outing The DFI Educational Trust Annual Califor- nia Golf Outing was held on October 19 at the Castlewood Country Club in Pleasan- ton, Calif. The event, organized by Trust Chair M. Byrl Williams, was attended by over 60 golfers and netted approximately $30,000.
