A Productive Board Meeting in Oakland Sunday, October 11, preceding the 40 Annual Conference in Oakland. It was a productive meeting with many positive outcomes. DFI is currently in a good financial position, with membership growing steadily. Regional Chapters DFI Regional Chapters in Europe, India and Europe celebrated its 10 anniversary this year and is considering hosting the next Europe-based international conference in Rome in 2018 in partnership with EFFC. Frank Haehnig, chair, and Henk DeKoning, secretary, were present to give their reports. DFI of India was represented by Mohan Ramanathan, a member of its executive committee, who updated the board on the chapter’s increasing educational activities, such as quarterly workshops and the annual conference held in late September at IISc Bengalaru. He also presented their plans for a foundation rig operator training program, requesting participation from the leading rig manufacturers. DFI Middle East is currently working on elections for the next chair, and held a workshop on characterization of weak rock in conjunction with the third Arabian Tunneling conference in November in Dubai. the Middle East, have all been active. DFI th Hard at work during the board meeting James Johnson, executive vice president of Condon-Johnson & Associates, Erik Loehr, Ph.D., P.E., professor at University of Missouri and Alan Roach, president and CEO of Berkel & Company Contractors were all voted by membership to serve another term. Retiring trustees are past presidents Rudy Frizzi, P.E., G.E., D.GE, Foundation Solutions will retire from the board as well, having served as trustee since 2007. The board also voted on officers and decided to maintain the current slate of John Wolosick, P.E., D.GE, as president, Dan Brown, Ph.D., P.E., D.GE, as vice president, Matthew Janes, P.Eng., as treasurer and Michael Wysockey, Ph.D., P.E. as secretary. New trustees – Lemnitzer, Felice and Taube New and Retiring Trustees Three new DFI trustees were announced: Professor Anne Lemnitzer from UC Irvine, Dr. Conrad Felice, P.E., of ILF Consultants, and Marty Taube, P.E., P.G., from Menard. principal and executive vice president at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, and James Morrison, P.E., execu- tive vice president of ILF Consultants, who both originally joined the board in 2012. St. Louis or New Orleans is being con- sidered for the 2017 location, and Los Angeles for 2018. The DFI Educational Trust is healthy and growing. See page 61 for an update. Other general business was conducted including: approval of minutes, plans for upcoming board and executive committee meetings, the agenda for the 2016 winter planning meeting, collaboration with other industry organizations, DFI’s dues structure and governing documentation, the outcomes and plans for DFI’s many varied technical activities plus business oppor- tunities in new world regions. Following the board meeting, many trustees attended the technical committee and working group chairs meeting since they serve as board liaisons to the groups and were on hand to lend advice as needed to the chairs. During this meeting, they discussed what their committees would be covering at their meetings the following day and their plans for the coming year.
