DFI Educational Trust Update Thomas Wysockey Dinner The inaugural fundraising dinner for the Thomas Wysockey Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund was a great success, raising over $70,000. It was held at the Union League Club of Chicago at the end of August. Nearly 300 people gathered to honor Thomas J. Wysockey, chairman emeritus of Thatcher Foundations Inc., and Trust board effective Dec 31, 2014, and will serve the balance of Coleman’s five-year term: January 1, 2015 - December 31, 2018. Metcalf will replace Cole- man as a trustee; the position of Trust chair will be determined by trustee vote at the next DFI Edu- cational Trust board meeting in November. Proceeds from the event benefit the educational and mentoring programs of the DFI Educational Trust and the ACE Mentor Program of New Jersey. Osterberg Lecture 2015 Frank Rausche, Ph.D., P.E., of GRL Engineers, Inc., has been selected as the DFI 2015 Osterberg Lecturer. The lecture will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2015, 7:30 a.m.- 8:30 a.m., during the International Foundations Congress and Equipment Expo (IFCEE) at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas. For more information visit www.ifcee2015.com Rausche is the founder and principal Simonne and Tom Wysockey to hear guest speaker Clyde N. Baker, Jr., P.E., S.E., of GEI Consultants, Inc. The fund was established through a generous donation of $50,000 from Thatcher Foundations and is part of a pledge totaling $100,000. The Wysockey Fund will provide financial awards to deserving civil engineering students who are pursuing a career in the deep foundations industry. New Trustee Dwight Metcalf, P.E., was elected by the DFI Board of Trustees to serve as a trustee of the DFI Educational Trust. Metcalf will replace David Coleman, who is retiring from the Metcalf has 24 years of experience in the contracting industry with a focus on deep foundations work. He has been with Kiewit Foundations Group for 21 years, and is currently the area manager for the Eastern District/Underground Division. Metcalf earned both a B.S. and an M.S. in civil engineering from Arizona State University. He is a registered professional engineer in Arizona and New York. NJ and PA Golf Outings Recent Trust golf outings in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Hillsborough N.J., were a success. In July, the Pittsburgh Golf Outing at Chartiers Country Club was attended by 63 golfers, and raised approximately $60,000 to benefit the Trust’s Carnegie Mellon Scholarship Fund. In August, the of GRL Engineers, Inc., and was its president from 1977 to 2011. He received the 2000 Civil Engineer of the Year Award and the 2009 G. Brooks Earnest Award from the Cleveland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the 2003 Distinguished Service Award from DFI. Rausche developed the CAPWAP and GRLWEAP programs, holds five patents and has had more than 50 papers published in journals and conference proceedings. DFI’s annual Osterberg Memorial Lecture and Award was established in honor of Dr. Jorj O. Osterberg, one of the true pioneers of geotechnical engineering, to recognize innovations in deep foundations construction related to engineering design, testing or education.
