PEOPLE & COMPANIES Specialized Engineering welcomed Jon Bennett, P.E. , D.GE, a s vi c e president and practice leader for geostructural engineering services. He will be helping clients solve underground design and construction challenges across the geostructural product spectrum, offering expert guidance in deep foun- dations, earth retention and structural support within his areas of expertise. Bennett has more than 25 years of experience, focused primarily on deep foundations, earth retention and other geotechnical construction specialties, as well as extensive business development experience. He received a B.S. degree in civil engineering from West Virginia University and M.S. degrees from George Washington University and West Virginia University. Bennett is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and was inducted into the ASCE Academy of Geo-Professionals and was board-certified in 2009. Kavulic, P.E., of PennDOT District 10-0 Geotechnical Engineer, Lobo- Guerrero discussed the latest advancements in the construction and testing of drilled shafts used in transportation projects, including significant contributions by DFI and its members. R. Mark Dempf, P.E., ENV SP has joined McMillen Jacobs as a principal and vice president in the construc- tion management practice based in the New York office. Dempf will be supporting existing tunnel and underground design and construction projects and participating in new project pursuits for existing and new clients. Dempf is a licensed professional engineer in New York and Vermont with 33 years of experience in infrastructure/utility master planning, design and construction activities. He earned his B.S. in civil engi- neering from the University of Vermont. Dempf began his career at Vollmer Sebastian Lobo-Guerrero Ph.D., P.E., (pictured right) project manager and labor- atory manager at American Geotechnical and Environmental Services, presented the state of the art of construction and testing of caissons/drilled shafts at the Pennsylvania State Capital, as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) 2019 Transportation Managers Training Workshop (TMTW). The event was also sponsored by the Federal Highway Associates in New York City as a project engineer in 1985. By 2005, he had risen to partner at Vollmer, which was then acquired by Stantec in 2007. Prior to joining McMillen Jacobs, he was Stantec’s tri-state director of construction services. As his initial assignment at McMillen Jacobs, Dempf is serving as project executive for the resident engineering and inspection of trenchless installation of gas and water utilities for projects at Randall’s Island and City Island for New York City Department of Design and Construction. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including ASCE, N.Y. Water Environment Association, American Water Works Association, N.Y. State Society of Professional Engineers, Construction Management Association of America and American Public Works Association. As part of its ongoing strategic progression plan, Geo-Solutions announces the promotions of Darin Payne, Dan Ruffing, P.E., and Mike Fisher, and the re-hiring of Rob Winters, CSP. Payne has accepted the position of president. Bob Schindler, one of the principals of Geo-Solutions and current president and CEO, wi l l retain the position of CEO. In addition to his current responsibilities, Payne will assume day-to- day operations responsibility for the entire company, where he will provide operational leadership for all aspects of the business from client and project initiation through successful project completion. As CEO, Schindler will continue to focus on overall direction, strategy and company vision. Payne, with a degree from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, has been in the specialty environmental and geotechnical industry since 2000 and has been involved with some of the largest environmental soil mixing projects completed in the U.S. Ruffing has advanced to vice president of engineering. Ken Andromalos, P.E., currently vice president of engineering, will assume the role of technical dir- ector, which will allow for increased focus on com- plex and chal lenging aspects of our work. Ruffing will oversee and direct Geo-Solutions’ estimating, business development and marketing functions. Ruffing has been with Geo- Solutions since 2009 after completing his B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering at Bucknell University. Fisher has stepped up as northeast regional man- ager for Geo-Solutions, where he will provide pro- ject direction for special projects and oversee the project management group in the Northeast as well as company-wide project manage- ment administration. Fisher started as a project engineer for Geo-Con (now a part of Geo-Solutions) in 1994. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and has 25 years of experience in the specialty geotechnical and environmental industries.
