Deep Foundations for Landslides/Slope Stabilization Committee Lastly, we are currently working jointly with the Anchored DFI’s Deep Foundations for Landslides and Slope Stabilization Committee is currently involved in a number of items. The most exciting is assisting in planning for S3: Slope – Support – Stabilization (see page 37). We have several committee members active in the planning process, along with members from other teaming committees. The conference takes place August 6-8, 2019, in Minneapolis, Minn., and opens with a with a fundraiser for the Women in Deep Foundations Fund at Target Field to see the Minnesota Twins play the Atlanta Braves. The technical program features a variety of compelling presentations. The conference, as in previous years, will continue to feature a software problem presentation with a panel discussion. The committee is working to put together a special issue of the DFI Journal to be published in 2020. The special issue will feature several technically-based papers as well as papers based on project case histories, all in the spirit of applications used to stabilize landslides or slopes. Earth Retention Committee to complete a deliverable for the Committee Project Fund (CPF). The project is for Developing Guidance for Factoring Structural Resistance for Landslide Stabilization and Excavation Support, led by Dr. Erik Loehr, P.E., and Andy Boeckmann, P.E., of the University of Missouri and Paul Axtell, P.E., of Dan Brown and Associates. The research takes a look at the problem where factoring structural resistance may increase cost associated with construction of structural elements for slope stabilization and excavation support as compared to alternative techniques. This exciting kind of research is the reason that the CPF was initiated. We are anxiously awaiting the results. We are happy to welcome new members to the committee. The next meeting for the committee will take place during the S3 Conference in August. Visit www.dfi.org/groups.asp?join for information to join the committee. DEEP FOUNDATIONS • MAY/JUNE 2019 • 69
