Upcoming Events WiDF Fundraising Event S3: Slope – Support – Stabilization Planning is well underway for S3: Slope – Support – Stabilization, taking place August 6-8 at the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot in Minnesota. This two-day conference focuses on the effective application of deep foundations, ground improvement and soil mixing for stabilization of slopes and excavation support. The following DFI Committees are working together to host this event: Anchored Earth Retention, Drilled Shaft, Ground Improvement, Landslides and Slope Stabilization, Slurry Walls, Soil Mixing, Subsurface Characterization, and Testing and Evaluation. Program Chair This year’s conference is chaired by Chris Ramsey, P.E., senior engineer at Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions. Ramsey performs foundation and pile cap design, deep foundation design, ground modification, underpinning, permanent and temporary retaining wall and shoring designs, finite element analyses, as well as slope stability analyses and designs for repair. He is a licensed P.E. in five states and an active member of DFI, ASCE and Geo-Institute. Ramsey is the chair of the DFI Deep Foundations for Landslides and Slope Stabilization Committee and a past president of the ASCE Cincinnati Section. He received his B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Program Highlights S3 features a dynamic technical program, including a 90-minute, live software discussion and panel on Thursday, August 8 from 11:00 a.m.– 12:30 p.m. (Central time). The discussion is also being broadcast as a webinar for those who cannot attend the event. S3 Chair, Chris Ramsey, P.E., will facilitate a discussion aimed at furthering industry understanding of the use of software for slope stabilization problems. Providers of commonly-used software packages will discuss, analyze and present solutions for the same real-world slope stabilization problem, explore how the software was used to prepare various solutions and provide tips on using packages to produce and validate solutions. The presentation will be followed by a facilitated Q&A discussion. This 2.5-day course covers engineering, mix designs, materials, equipment, ACI Codes and specifications, construction, inspection, QA/QC and field demonstrations used for civil and geotechnical, underground construction, shaft/tunnel and mining projects.
