Hertlein was the The Trust board and DFI leadership in San Antonio Trust Board Meets in San Antonio The DFI Educational Trust Board met on February 22 in San Antonio, Texas, during DFI’s Winter Planning Meeting. The financial report revealed that the Trust ended 2016 on a very positive note, with its investments showing a 28 percent increase from the previous year, because of generous contributions and excellent investment performance. The Trust’s total assets are valued at more than $3 million. Among items on the agenda, the board discussed and began planning a number of fundraising initiatives for 2017, in both the United States and Canada, to benefit several of its scholarship funds. Two New Trustees Bernard (Bernie) Hertlein, FACI, M.ASCE, of GEI Consultants, and Mark Rice of McNeil, Silveira, Rice & Wiley, have joined the DFI Educational Trust Board, effective January 1, 2017, as At-Large Trustees to a serve an initial two-year term. Rice is an attorney whose practice includes substantial concentration on construction litiga- t ion. He previously served on the Trust board during 2013-2014, and has been a consistent supporter of Trust events, such as the annual California Golf Outing. Five-Year Trustee Zoran “Zac” Curanovic, P.E., of Under- pinning and Foundation Skanska in New York, has been elected to serve as a five-year trustee on the Trust board to complete the term of Dwight Me t c a l f , of Kiewit, who recently resigned from the Board due to increased professional obligations. Curanovic had been serving as a two-year At-Large Trustee since 2014. In 2016, he led the effort to create the George J. Tamaro Civil Engineering Scholarship at Manhattan College, and spearheaded a successful fundraising drive that raised more than $100,000 for this new fund.
