PEOPLE & COMPANIES John R. Wolosick, P.E., D.GE., director of engineering at Hayward Baker and immedi a t e pa s t president of DFI, received an Engineer of the Year in Industry Award from the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers. The award was presented at an event on February 25, 2017, celebrating the state’s exceptional engineers, engineering projects and industry achievements. Commenting on the receipt of his award, Wolosick said, “I am deeply honored to be recognized by my peers with this award. My career has been a lot of fun. One of my mentors, George Sowers, often said that if you aren’t having fun at work, find something else to do!” James D. Hussin, P.E., M.ASCE, director of Keller Foundations, is the recipient of the Wallace Hayward Baker Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Geo-Institute. The award was presented on March 13, 2017, at the Geo-Frontiers 2017 conference in Orlando, Fla. In receiving the career award, Hussin was cited for his “extraordinary contribu- tions to the ground improvement industry through development of soil mixing tech- nologies and the creative application of vibro ground improvement” in the North American construction industry. Schnabel Engineering received the Amer- ican Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Virginia’s 2017 Pinnacle Award along with Dunbar Milby William Pittman & Vaughan for their joint work on the new $200 million, 640,000 sq ft (59,458 sq m) Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. The two firms col- laborated on the design of the structural support and underpinning of the existing adjacent pav- ilion building, and design of the support of excavation and mat foundation for the new building. AECOM and its team of subconsultants recently completed the new Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) Bridge Design Manual. Paul H. Moffitt, P.E., and Neil A. Shemo, P.E., of AECOM, and Jack Dziubek, P.E., and Sebastian Lobo- Guerrero Ph.D., P.E., of American Geotech- nical and Environmental Services (A.G.E.S.) co-authored the geotechnical sections of the manual. The new manual is based on the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and FHWA Geotechnical Circulars and incorporates the use of new technologies such as ground improvement techniques. Other new aspects of the manual include specifications regarding addressing potential and mitigation of running sands, vibration monitor and control during construction of foundations, lateral squeeze, downdrag and scour considerations. Download the manual at http://deldot.gov/information/pubs_form s/manuals/bridge_design/2016/bridge_ design_manual.pdf Shannon & Wilson and the University of Wash- ington’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering hosted the 2017 Stanley D. Wilson Memorial Lecture, delivered by University of Washington Professor Steven L. Kramer (pictured) on March 23. Dr. Kramer’s lecture was titled “Time and Soil Liquefaction.” The Stanley D. Wilson Memorial Lecture was established in 1989 to foster and maintain the spirit of thoughtful and practical engineering solutions. Corbett Hansen has joined Shannon & Wilson as a geotechnical engineer and senior associate. He will be leveraging his trans- portation experience, with his knowledge and understanding of the local market and geographic conditions, to develop a branch office in Salt Lake City, Utah. Corbett brings more than 18 years of experience with geotechnical and geological projects, from small pavement designs to billion dollar design-build highway projects. He has worked extensively on design-build proposal and project efforts for the Utah Department of Transportation. The Journal of Innovative Infrastructure Solutions (IIS) has been published by Springer since 2016, and is a source for studies exploring geotechnical engineering and sustainable civil infrastructures, with a focus on mitigating and adapting to climate change. The IIS Journal is co-published with the Soil-Structure Interaction Group in Egypt (SSIGE). Papers already published in the Journal can be found at http://news. springer.com/re?l=D0In65n2yI6ih9p6sIe. Swaminathan (Vasan) Srinivasan, P.E., has been named president of Terra- con Consultants, succeeding David Gaboury, P.E., who continues as Terracon’s chairman and CEO. Srinivasan joined the firm in 2007 and advanced from senior engineer to geotechnical engineering man- ager to division manager. His progression continued while serving as Western Operating Group manager and executive vice president. He has held a seat on the company’s board of directors since 2013, and recently served as Terracon’s chief operating officer. Srinivasan is a licensed professional engineer with an MBA from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, an M.S. in geotechnical engineering from the University of Cincin- nati, and a B.S.C.E. from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
