Bauer Foundation Corp. appointed Dr. Michael Arnold as engineering manager. He leads the growing engineering group and ove r s e e s quality control. Arnold, who directed Bauer Foundat ion’s research and development for the past four years, has a background in academia and authored numerous papers on retaining structures, soil improvement, and physical and numerical modeling. He has served in the DFI/EFFC Drilled Shaft/Bored Piles workgroup and holds graduate and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering, both from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. Atlas Copco Construction Equipment appointed four managers to lead its growing rental market in the U.S. Steve Nelson (pictured right) serves the national rental after- market as a business development manager, Norbert Matthews works as an area sales manager for the Midwest, Ch a r l i e Cl a r k s o n (pictured left) serves the Northwest as the area s a l e s ma n a g e r a n d Ronald Repasz is the area sales manager for the Southwest. Together, the four new managers have more than 40 years of industry experience. Nelson has been with Atlas Copco for more than four years and has over 20 years of industry experience. Mat thews works wi th customers in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky. He has 15 years of experience in the rent a l indus t r y working for independent and national companies. Clarkson manages Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana. He previously worked in sales and customer relations for a freight carrier company. Repasz holds prior positions in sales and service at Eaton, and said he looks forward to continuing to work with customers and building trusting relationships. Prior to working at Eaton, he served 12 years in the Navy. Hayward Baker announced the opening of a new office in Middletown, Conn. The office supports customers and projects in Connecticut, and is led by Brian Eastman, P.E., with oversight from Kevin Dawson, P.E., New England area manager. Eastman is a gr adua t e of the Unive r s i ty of Massachusetts – Amherst with a B.S. in civil and environmental engineering and an M.S. with a focus on geotechnical engineering, and has been employed by Hayward Baker for five years in the New England office. He has worked on a wide range of projects, inc luding g round improv ement techniques, structure foundation support and temporary support of excavations. Eastman is joined by Ray Smi th, superintendent, who brings more than 15 years of project experience including drilled shafts, shotcrete earth support, micropiles and ground improvement. McMillen Jacobs Associates played a critical role in the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s Bay Tunnel project, which was recently awarded the 2015 Outstanding Water Project in the State of California from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Region 9. The presence of environmentally sensitive habitats on the Bay margins precluded using cut-and-cover pipelines, which resulted in the need for a 5 mi (8 km) long tunnel with only launching and receiving shafts and no intermediate construction shafts. The tunnel is the first of its kind built under the Bay and despite numerous challenges; the tunneling was completed eight months ahead of schedule. Brian Eastman, P.E.
