EDUCATIONAL TRUST Seeking New Trustee As part of an on-going effort to expand its capabilities, the Trust board is currently seeking a candidate for trustee with a marketing/public relations background to assist with outreach and fundraising efforts. The Trust has been working to find trustees that bring a different professional, geographical or generational perspective to the board. For example, Roger Healey, chief counsel at Goettle, was appointed as a trustee in 2013 to assist with legal issues. He was followed in 2014 by Lars Richter of AECON to assist with fundraising in Engineering & Environmental Services Legacy Scholarship Fund — honors Bernard Langan, founder of Langan Engineering & Environmental Services and a graduate of Purdue University. Scrap for Scholars The Trust has launched Scrap for Scholars, a fundraising initiative targeted at companies with construction sites and manufacturing plants that produce metal waste such as used tools, excess rebar and steel templates. Since joining the board almost a year ago, Judith has been extremely active, lending her expertise and advice to a wide variety of financial issues as well as providing valuable input to other areas of governance. Langan Scholarship The first Bernard F. Langan Scholarship at Purdue University was awarded to Ayda Catalina Galvis, a graduate student pursuing her Ph.D. in civil engineering at Purdue University. Her thesis is titled “Effect of Cyclic Loads on the Axial Capacity of Piles.” She obtained her B.S. and M.S in civil engineering from the National University of Colombia. The scholarship — one of three scholarships funded by the Langan recycled waste to the general fund of the DFI Educational Trust to support its programs and activities. The Trust’s programs help civil engineering students attain their educational goals and continue on to careers in the deep foundations industry.
