JMC Steel Group announced the promotion of two executives: Jelani Rucker to vice president of marketing and business development and Jeff Shulman to vice president of logistics. Rucker has served as JMC’s director of marketing and business development for over eight years. He holds a B.S. in electrical and computer engineer- ing and an M.S. in technical management, both from Johns Hopkins University. Shulman has been in a logistics role at JMC for more than nine years. With his promo- tion, he is now responsible for the develop- ment and implementation of logistics strategy with JMC’s key carriers. Shulman holds an honors B.S. degree in communi- cations from McMaster University. Dr. Chris Laughton joined ILF Consultants as a principal engineer in the Seattle office. Laughton has over 35 years of direct project experience as a contractor, designer, consultant and owner’s representative. He currently chairs the U.S. Underground Construction Association Benefits of the Going Underground Com- mittee, and is a member of the International Society for Rock Mechanics Commission on Underground Research Laboratories. Laughton holds an M.S. degree in rock mech- anics and a Ph.D. in geotechnical engineer- ing from the University of Texas at Austin, and is a registered professional engineer in the U.S. and Europe. Sand has in-depth experience regarding the service and spare parts operations of a mechanical engineering company operating in the global market. Kleinfelder announced that John Struzziery, senior program manager, was named one of Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Top 25 Newsmakers of 2014. The award was presented during ENR’s black-tie gala, held in New York City on April 16. Struzziery was chosen for his leadership on Alewife Stormwater Wetland Project in Cambridge, Mass., a public pro- ject lauded for applying natural, sus- tainable techniques to resolve a significant combined sewer overflow problem while restoring the area’s natural hydrology, pro- tecting and enhancing the local ecosystem, and creating new recreational and educational features for the community. American Pi ledriving Equipment announced that David White was named one of Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Top 25 Newsmakers of 2014. White estab- lished an office in China and drove piles for landmark projects including the $10 billion Hong Kong-Macau link. APE devised a $20 million system of eight linked vibratory hammers — known as the “Octakong” — that operate in perfect sync. It drove 120 piles, each about 130 ft (40 m) tall and 665 tons (600 tonnes), to create the artificial islands at the core of the 50 km (31 mi) link. Octakong is still being used for other project components. Hayward Baker opened its new office in the Charleston, S.C. metro area. The office, under the leadership of new project manager Dan Holley, P.E., will support clients and projects in South Carolina and surrounding states. Holley has lived and worked locally in Charleston as a practicing professional geotechnical engineer for over 13 years. He is an active member of industry associations and organizations, including
