Patrick Wilkon is a senior studying civil engineering and management at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. After graduation, Wilkon plans to work as a municipal infrastructure engineering consultant or as a tunneling contractor, integrating his capabilities and interests in deep foundations to provide innovative solutions that solve daily challenges in transit, water and wastewater transmission. The Manuel Fine Civil Engineering Matt Roberts Roberts graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in civil engineering and has held roles ranging from field engineer and estimator to lead superintendent and business line manager. He’s a 26-year veteran with the Kiewit organization, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father and uncle who all led successful Kiewit careers. Fine Scholarships The Trust has awarded two Manuel Fine Civil Engineering Scholarships, each in the amount of U.S. $2,500. Michelle Liu is a graduate student at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. During her undergraduate studies, she Scholarship Fund was established in 2013 and honors Manuel Fine (1929-2018), who served DFI for 24 years in many roles, including trustee, president, executive director, managing editor of Deep Foundations, and in recent years, as publisher of the DFI Journal. The fund provides scholarships for civil engineering students attending universities in the province of Ontario. Fine was a graduate of the University of Toronto. Langan Legacy Scholarships The Trust recently awarded three of the four Langan Engineering & Environmental Services Legacy Scholarships. The fund, which provides scholarships to civil engi- neering students focusing on geotechnical and/or environmental engineer- ing, includes four scholar- ships honoring former distinguished members of Langan. The 2019 recipient of the $5,000 Bernard F. Langan Scholarship at Purdue University is graduate student Rameez Ali Raja. After serving 17 years in the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers, Raja has earned his M.S. from Purdue and is continuing as a Ph.D. candidate.
