D F I A C T I V I T I E S See You at SuperPile ’20 SuperPile ’20 is just weeks away. Hosted in partnership with ADSC, DFI’s conference is taking place June 3-5, at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark in Missouri. This three-day event includes presentations on the latest developments in augered cast-in- place/drilled displacement piles, drilled shafts, driven piles, ground improvement (related to piling), helical piles and tiebacks, marine foundations, micropiles, seismic and lateral loads, and testing and evaluation of foundation systems, as well as committee meetings, a workshop, net- working receptions and exhibit booths. The SuperPile ’20 Technical Program Committee has planned a schedule of strong technical content with presentations showcasing advancements, innovations and challenges in design and construction of deep foundat ions and des ign approaches for foundation optimization, innovative approaches to foundation construction, and case histories/topics relevant to the Midwest. The full program can be viewed on pages 28-29 or at www.dfi.org/SuperPile20 for the latest updates. Testing Workshop, Committee Meetings and WiDF Reception On Wednesday, June 3, DFI’s Testing and Evaluation Committee is hosting a full-day preconference workshop, Impact Testing Gerald Verbeek Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos for Site Characterization Including Liquefaction Assessment, from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Gerald Verbeek of Allnamics Pile Testing Experts is moderating the workshop, and Adda Athanasopoulos- Zekkos, assistant professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of California, Berkeley, is the featured workshop leader. The workshop provides an overview of the limitations, benefits and uses of methods, and how to characterize the subsurface using approaches such as SPT, CPT and shear wave velocity methods. It includes case histories that demonstrate practical usage of the methods, while providing ample time for discussion among workshop attendees. DFI technical committees are meeting in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. to discuss progress on various committee projects. Following the committee meetings, join the women and men of DFI’s Women in Deep Foundations (WiDF) Committee at DEEP FOUNDATIONS • MAR/APR 2020 • 25
