Perko, Ph.D., P.E. 14 Emergent Grout Pile Technologies Grouted helical piles are being used to achieve higher capacity than conventional helical piles, as the grout piles are able to develop capacity in both end bearing and side resistance. This article presents a brief overview of the development of grouted helical piles, identifies some benefits and limitations, and provides load- displacement behavior from load testing performed on two types of grouted helical piles. 71 Member Profile: Silas Nichols, P.E., Valued FHWA Partner Rozbeh B. The device consists of three penetrometers and three retractable plates to measure the resistance to penetration and displacement, respectively, due to an applied axial force, which provides an indication of material strength.
