He is currently working on research project on extreme events of rain over 115 years. Mazor participates in the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) mentorship program. Prior to starting his academic career, Mazor was an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces. Abraham Rubel is a junior civil engineering student specializing in structures. He is currently participating in grant-provided research for Na t i ona l Oc e ani c and Atmo sphe r i c Administration (NOAA) Crest analyzing drought levels to produce predictive models for water deficits for agriculture. Rubel mentors students as part of the National Society for Leadership and Success, and recently joined Chi Epsilon. The Stanley Merjan Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 and is named for Stanley Merjan, an inspiration and mentor to young engineers throughout the construction industry, and a graduate of CCNY. Kulhawy Memorial Scholarship Fund The Deep Foundations Educational Trust announces the establishment of the Fred Kulhawy Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund, which honors Dr. Kulhawy’s contribution to the deep foundations industry, will provide At-Large Scholarships to students enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate civil engineering program at any accredited college or university in the United States. Dr. Fred Kulhawy was professor emeritus of civil and geotechnical engineering at Cornell University, a consulting geotechnical engineer and an enthusiastic stamp collector. He was an active member of DFI since 1989 and was DFI’s 2007 Hal Hunt lecturer, presenting “Communicating Technical Issues with Levity and Panache,” and a speaker for the DFI Educational Trust in 2011 at the annual gala, presenting “A View of Civil Engineering as Portrayed in Postage Stamps.” Kulhawy received his B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
