The scopes of many TRB committees are related to the services provided by DFI members. I attend meetings of the committees listed below, and I am pleased to serve as a member of AFS30, chaired by Ken Fishman, McMahon and Mann Consulting Engineers. • APF30 Soil and Rock Properties Committee • AFP10(2) Geotechnical Asset Management • AFP20 Exploration and Classification of Earth Materials TRB’s website — trb.org — provides links to websites for these committees, which contain meeting minutes, research needs statements and other useful information on activities. TRB has numerous other interesting committees to explore. Committee meetings are open to anyone to attend and serve as a “friend” of the committee. COMMITTEE CHAIR LORI A. SIMPSON, P.E., G.E., Codes and Standards Committee The IBC codes, and The GeoCoalition Code Council is a group of industry leaders representing DFI, ASCE, GeoInstitute, Pile Driving Contractors Association (PDCA), the International Association of Foundation Drilling (ADSC) and Geotechnical Business Association (GBA, formerly ASFE). This group of active and dedicated members has been working diligently to develop extensive foundations- related code change proposals for the International Building Code (2018 Edition) produced by the International Code Council (ICC). I have been pleased to work with the other project leads, Dale Biggers of Boh Bros., chair of the PDCA Technical Committee; Ted Maynard, consultant, representing ASCE; Scott DiFiore of Simp- son Gumpertz & Heger; and Woody Vogt of Paradigm Consultants, representing GBA, on this important foundation industry- wide initiative. Subcommittees met weekly or monthly for almost two years to review the existing IBC (2015 version), discuss potential modifications, and write new code language and justifications for changes. The DFI Codes and Standards Committee met every month to review the proposed changes. other similar codes, are typically written by structural engineers, and this joint foundation industry code change proposal initiative was intended to modify the code to reflect the experience and expertise of foundation engineers and contractors and produce code language that is more representative of practice. The group uploaded the code change proposals to the ICC website in January 2016, and the ICC published all proposals for public review in February 2016. The Geo- Coal i t ion Code Counci l leads are defending the proposals during the ICC code hearings on April 17-27, 2016, in Louisville, Ky. ICC is posting the resultant change proposals to its website in October 2016 for public review, and the changes will affect the 2018 version of the IBC. We encourage all DFI members to review the proposals as currently posted and provide feedback to me for consideration prior to the April code hearings.
