DFI Executive Director Theresa Leonardo Yoshiaki Abe Donald J. Murphy Memorial Scholarship The first Donald J. Murphy Memorial Scholarship at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering was awarded to Leonardo Yoshiaki Abe, a graduate student in the Department of Civil and Urban Engi- neering. Dr. David Crapps Engler told Imani Johnson, a reporter for the NYU student newspaper, that Langan Engineering and Environ- mental Services stressed that Murphy was very interested in the environmental engineering side of the business and that Abe’s passion made him a perfect candidate for the scholarship. In fact, Abe recently completed an internship with Massa- chusetts Department for Environmental Protection and wants to use his skills to affect change on environmental issues. Osterberg Memorial Lecture David K. Crapps, Ph.D., P.E., is presenting the DFI 2016 Osterberg Memorial Lecture at SuperPile ’16, being held June 7-9 in Chicago. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the DFI Educational Trust Scholarship Fund. Dr. Crapps is the founding owner of S chme r tmann & Crapps, Gainesville, Fla. He is a deep foun- dations specialist with over 40 year s of research, design, con- struction, and testing of piles and drilled shafts (bored piles). He has served as the geotechnical engineer-of-record for many significant projects involving drilled shafts, SPT testing and dilatometer testing. He has authored and co-authored many reports and technical publications on geotechnical engineering, and has lectured at the University of Florida and at DFI, ASCE, and ADSC events. He also assisted the Florida DOT in writing the Foundation Specifications for Structures used today by a number of state agencies. Dr. Crapps earned his B.Sc. and his M.A.Sc. from the Georgia Institute of Tech- nology and his Ph.D. from the University of Florida, Gainesville. M.
