DFI ACTIVITIES SuperPile ’16: Slated for a Super Success Planning is in full swing for the upcoming SuperPile ’16 conference, taking place June 7-9, 2016, in Chicago, Ill. Members of nine of DFI’s Technical Committees and this year’s partnering organization ADSC are combining their industry expertise to host this event. The three-day conference includes presentations on the latest developments in driven piles, augered cast-in-place/drilled displacement piles, micropiles, marine foundations, testing and evaluation of foundation systems, seismic and lateral loads, drilled shafts, ground improvement and helical piles and tiebacks. foundations, particularly related to piling solutions. Panel discussions on current topics will provide attendees opportunities to share new ideas and industry experience. Equipment, material and instrumentation suppliers, contractors, engineers and other vendors will present their services in the Exhibit Hall. Committee Meetings On Tuesday, June 7, DFI’s Technical Committees are meeting in the afternoon to discuss progress on various committee projects. A complimentary tour of the Atlas Tube plant is also planned for the morning, and transportation will be provided for all participants. The DFI Women in Deep Foundations Committee (WiDF) is hosting a Boat Tour and Recept ion fundraiser in the evening that highl ight s the architectural, geotech- nical and structural aspects of historic Chicago buildings. Proceeds benefit the DFI Educational Trust Women in Deep Foundations Fund that provides professional grants and supports other activities for the committee. Crapps, P.E., the founding owner of Schmertmann & Crapps in Gainesville, Fla., has been selected as this year’s lecturer. He is a deep foundations specialist with over 40 years of experience in research, design, construction, and testing of piles and drilled shafts. This prestigious lecture was established in honor of Dr. Jorj O. Osterberg, to recognize innovations in deep foundations construction related to engineering design, testing or education and is supported by DFI Corporate Member Loadtest, Inc.
