PEOPLE & COMPANIES After a distinguished 27- year career, Heinrich Majewski retired from Malcolm Drilling Com- pany, Inc. Majewski was promoted to vice presi- dent of anchored systems in 1995 and became manager of Malcolm’s San Fran- cisco office. In 2007, he was named vice president of construction and engineering. Majewski’s pragmatism and his infectious passion for the foundation industry will be sorely missed. He will remain active as a consultant to Malcolm, and his new focus will be pursing his old passion — exploring the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Alps. Theresa Engler, execu- tive director of DFI, was named a board member of the Academy of Geo- Professionals (AGP), an elite group comprised of about 275 Diplomates, Geotechnical Engineering (D.GE). Engler (formerly Rappaport) has been the executive director of DFI since 2006 and served as the assistant director from 1998 to 2006. Engler will serve as the public member on the AGP Board – a position reserved for someone who represents the best interest of the general public but is not a diplomate. She succeeds Walt Marlowe and Scot Litke as former public members and is also the first female AGP board member. Schnabel Engineering, Inc., Glen Allen, Va., announced the promotion of Joan E. Bentel, P.E., to associate. Bentel started her career with Schnabel in the Gaithersburg, Md., office over 10 years ago as a senior staff engineer after receiving her B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. Bentel’s design experience includes all foundation types, pavement, retaining walls, subdrainage, slope stability analysis and lateral pile analysis. She is a registered professional engineer and chairs the firm’s geotechnics committee in the Washington D.C. region. The MENCK MHU 3500S hydraulic hammer delivers 6.2 kJ per tonne of weight, with a pile sleeve that is 6.5 m (21 ft) in diameter. The Sandbank offshore wind farm project is due to be constructed in 2015, 90 km (56 mi) off the coast of the German island, Sylt, in the North Sea.
