Stefano Valagussa 73 Standardizing Foundation Design for Electric Transmission Structures Peter Kandaris, P.E., and Steve Davidow, P.E., S.E., P.Eng. Design practices vary significantly from utility to utility as the electric transmission industry does not have a unified code that explicitly covers design and construction of the various foundation types used to support electrical structures. The authors provide an overview of the state of the practice and existing design guidelines currently used in the electric transmission industry, along with a framework to improve the design practice and methodology. The report details that the low grades and infrastructure disruptions inconvenience daily life and result in a drag on the economy — business inefficiencies, decreased productivity, lower GDP and reduced personal income.
