Four megaproject lectures — Rome Metro C, Fehmarn Belt, Grand Paris and the Chennai Metro — and a panel discussion on geotechnical, contractual and communi- cation risks concluded the opening plenary session. Megaproject lecturers highlighted the technology and contractual advance- ment required to successfully execute these challenging and complex projects. Professor Michele Jamiolkowski delivered the DFI John Mitchell Lecture on Geophysics for Geotechnical Design to kick off the second day of the conference. Giovanni Ruggeri, Dr. Ing, ICOLD Italy, and David B. Paul, P.E., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, delivered invited lectures on Water Infrastructure Challenges in Italy and USACE Mega Challenge — Dams and Levee Rehabilitation Worldwide, respectively. Closing off the morning’s events was the Young Professionals and Students Mentoring Forum. This forum is a new program that DFI will continue and expand. Their input and feedback are critical for employers to understand to ensure long-term industry stability and corporate success.
