Deep Foundations for Landslides and Slope Stabilization Chair: Chris Ramsey, P.E., Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions [email protected] Trustee Liaison: J. Erik Loehr, Ph.D., P.E., University of Missouri, [email protected] • Planning the S3: Slopes, Slides and Stabilization Conference, August 4-6, 2020, in San Francisco, including the software discussion webinar series. • Performing comparison of geotechnical factors of safety for landslide/slope stabilization repairs, gathering data and determining form of presentation. • Preparing a DFI Journal issue with papers specific to deep foundations for landslide/slope stabilization topics. Drilled Shaft Chair: Paul Axtell, P.E., D.GE, Dan Brown and Associates, [email protected] Trustee Liaison: James O. Johnson, Condon Johnson and Associates, [email protected] • Collaborating with the European Federation of Foundation nd Contractors (EFFC) on the 2 edition of the Support Fluid Guide. Currently collecting information from actual construction sites. • Finalizing DFI Committee Project Fund research project, Rock Socket Shear Force Magnitude. The final report is expected to be published in the DFI Journal by researcher Anne Lemnitzer, Ph.D., P.E., University of California, Irvine. • Reviewed the FHWA Drilled Shaft Manual, Geotechnical Engineering Circular 10 (2018). The associated drilled shaft training course offered by the National Highway Institute (NHI) is also being updated and should be deployed soon. • Planning to review the FHWA Geotechnical Engineering Circular 15 pertaining to the acceptance of structural foundations when it is made available. • Reviewed and helped develop the recently published white paper on crosshole sonic logging (CSL) terms and criteria. • Contributing to drilled shaft sections of the DFI Electric Power Systems Foundations Committee’s white paper on the state of the practice for foundation design in the electrical structure market. • Researchers Lemnitzer and Kyle Rollins, Ph.D., Brigham Young University, are conducting a research project on updating p-y curves, including assembling case studies and implementing them in LPILE and other software for parametric studies. The committee is supporting a study that examines the plugging traits of open-end piles less than 36 in (914 mm) in diameter. Ryan C. Allin, P.E., and Sam Sternberg III, P.E., D.GE, are the committee liaisons for this project. • In December 2019, a subcommittee began work on writing a guide, “What to do before the project/pile driving begins?,” to best assist engineers and construction teams on site. • Exploring vibration prequalification course/guidelines. • Inviting guest speakers for most committee meetings to deliver 20-minute presentations on driven pile news, technical updates and more. Please submit an abstract to the chair to propose a presentation.
