Registration Opens In February Registration opens Tuesday, February 13 for SuperPile ’18, being held from June 27-29, 2018, at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City. This three-day event highlights the latest developments in augered cast-in-place and drilled displacement piles, drilled shafts, driven piles, ground improvement, helical piles and tiebacks, marine foundations, micropiles, testing and evaluation of foundation systems, and seismic and lateral loads. Best practices for project safety from design through construction as well as topics relevant to the New York City metro region will be presented*, including: • Innovations and advancements in pile design and installation • Working platforms • Corrosion of buried structures • Designing and constructing for safety • Designing for resiliency • Instrumentation, load testing, monitoring • Extreme or unexpected loading conditions (inclement weather, flooding, seismic) • Optimization of pile designs for cost effectiveness • Contractual practices * technical program topics subject to change The conference kicks off on June 27 with committee and working group meetings as well as a networking event hosted by DFI’s Women in Deep Foundations Committee. Day One features invited speakers in a plenary session, and Day Two has concurrent sessions providing attendees the option to choose presentations of interest. Panel discussions on current topics provide attendees opportunities to share new ideas and industry experience. Equipment, material and instrumentation suppliers, contractors, engineers, and other vendors will present their services in the exhibit hall. SuperPile ’18 Chair This year’s SuperPile chair is Andrew J. Burns, P.E., vice president of engineering and estimating for Underpinning & Foundation Skanska, president of the ADSC Northeast Chapter, member of DFI and the External Advisory Board of the civil engineering program at DEEP FOUNDATIONS • JAN/FEB 2018 • 27 SUNY Stony Brook. After graduating from City College of New York, Burns spent time on many projects in New York City and ulti- mately became an expert in drilled foundations, including drilled shafts and micropiles.
