EDUCATIONAL TRUST Annual Gala Dinner The 11 Annual DFI Educational Trust Gala Fundraising Dinner took place on November 3, 2016, at Terrace On The Park in Corona, N.Y. in Queens. The gala was attended by a record-breaking 168 guests and netted over $110,000. Proceeds from the dinner benefit the newly-established George J. Tamaro Manhattan College Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund. The first Tamaro scholarship recipients, th Alexa Raffaniello and Felipe Demelo, were present to accept the award from Gala Chair Zac Curanovic, P.E., Underpinning & Foundation Skanska. They are both students at Manhattan College in Bronx, N.Y., pursuing degrees in civil engineering. George J. Tamaro, P.E., consultant at Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, delivered the Keynote Presentation titled “Student, Contractor, Engineer...My Career and the Importance of Education.” During the presentation, Tamaro shared his experience at Manhattan College and how he became a slurry wall expert. He offered guests great career planning insight. Giving Tuesday Giving Tuesday is a movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the holiday season, and it occurs in the U.S. on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Beginning last year, the Trust joined the movement to raise additional funds for DFI s chol a r ship progr ams tha t he lp engineering students achieve their educational goals. As a result of its efforts, the Trust raised $6,800. New Trust Board Member Andrew C. Verity has been elected to serve a two-year term on the Board of Trustees for the DFI Educational Trust. Verity is cur- r ent l y a na t i ona l account manager with Terracon Con- sultants in Dallas, Texas.
