(JWF) selected IHC IQIP’s S-90 Hydrohammer to help install a 12 ft (3.66 m) wide tunnel in Portland, Ore. The Hydrohammer with a P-250 power pack and 24 in (610 mm) guide sleeve condenses and compacts the surrounding Liebherr Rig Works in Western Austria Rondo Ganahl AG, which specializes in the production of paper and packaging, is currently building a new high-bay warehouse and extension for logistics and for carrying out modifications to existing facilities at its headquarters in Franstanz, Austria. A new piling and drilling rig from Liebherr, the LRB 355, was used by the Austrian construction company Hilti & Jehle to carry out the sheet piling work on a 7,500 sq m (80,730 sq ft) area. The rig installed “U” profile sheet piles to a depth of approximately 11 to 12 m (36 to 40 ft) to lower the groundwater level 3 m (9.8 m) and to secure the foundation pit. The LRB 355 has a robust undercarriage and long crawlers that ensure a high level of stability. Thanks to the parallel kinematics, the piling and drilling rig has a large working radius. An additional advantage is the assembly of all winches directly on the leader, which enables a clear view of the main winch from the operator’s cab and ensures that the ropes do not move when the leader is adjusted. A particular highlight is the fuel effi- ciency of the 600 kW V-12 diesel motor and its Eco-Silent mode that allows the engine speed to be reduced to a predefined level. In addition to sheet pile installation using a vibrator, the LRB 355 is suitable for all common drilling methods, such as drilling with Kelly equipment, full displacement tool or continuous flight auger, soil mixing and operation with hydraulic hammer. Career Construction Events in the Northwest Bay Shore Systems of Rathdrum, Idaho participated in two community construc- tion career events this past fall for high school students in the Northwest. More than 1,100 students attended Hard Hats, Hammers, & Hot Dogs, Manufacturing & Career Day and Career Construction Days. The events provided an opportunity for students to try hands-on projects and operate heavy equipment and machinery, as well as meet with industry representatives from the trades and higher education. Hard Hats, Hammers, & Hot Dogs 2016 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, was held for middle and high school students. Over 300 students attended and were shown the basic operation functions of a drill using a Bay Shore Systems’ TR70. They were able to drill a hole, make a drilling pass, and learned about important safety procedures around drills and open holes. At the 2016 Career Construction Days in Spokane, Wash., Service Manager Dave Wright and Midwest Territory Manager Tony Ellis showed students the joystick functions, Kelly winch, rotary, and crowd system on a LōDril DH18. Bay Shore has participated in Hard Hats, Hammers, & Hot Dogs Manufacturing & Career Day since its inception nine years ago and in Career Construction Days for the past four years. The company is a strong advocate and supporter of early education of the skilled construction trades, which Preparing to drill at Career Day affects quality, safety and the industry’s ability to compete in building the infra- structure of a growing population.
