With the support of the Shamsher Prakash Foundation, Geoengineer.org has launched the James K. Mitchell Legacy website, which is a resource website devoted to honor Professor Jim Mitchell and his contri- butions while at the University of California at Berkeley and Virginia Tech. The website, http://mitchell.geoengineer.org/, includes testimonials from some of his 75 Ph.D. students and from several of his colleagues. Please contact Geoengineer.org if you have any resources related to Professor Mitchell’s career or projects, or if you wish to submit a testimonial for inclusion on the website. Equipment Corporation of America (ECA) named John Hayes as sales manager of its Southeast region. Hayes has authored several industry papers, and was elected twice to the International Association of Foundation Drilling (ADSC) Board of Directors. In other news, ECA expanded its offerings to drilling and pile driving contractors to include the PMX Power Mixer and PF Pressure Feeder Soil Stabilization Systems from ALLU Group. This partnership, executed in October 2016, gives ECA exclusive rights to sell and rent these systems in the Eastern United States and in the Eastern Canadian provinces. Swissboring, a branch of Trevi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is performing the foundation works for the new Invest- ment Corporation of Dubai (ICD) Tower. The scope of work is to construct 129,170 sq ft (12,000 sq m) of diaphragm walls, 850 piles with a diameter ranging between 40 and 60 in (1,000 and 1,500 mm), and more than 2,000 ground anchors. Marine Construction Technologies’ co- founder Per Reinhall, Ph.D., was featured on PBS News-Hour in the fall, and explained the technology behind MCT’s noise miti- gation solution. Smartvid.io, a cloud-based platform for analyzing photos and videos from industrial environments, announced a national collaboration with construction management firm Skanska USA Building. The collaboration was recently profiled by Commercial UAV News in the article “Drones in Construction: Organizing Field Data and Enabling Machine Learning.” Skanska and its joint venture partner, Stacy and Witbeck (SSW), announced that construct ion is underway for the foundations for the new Sixth Street Viaduct in Los Angeles. Numerous foundations will be drilled, using thousands of cubic yards of concrete and millions of pounds of reinforcing steel. Skanska is also working on the new Regional Connector and West Side Purple Line Extension for LA Metro. Additionally, its joint venture with Steve P. Rados Construction recently completed the Expo Line Phase 2 extension to Santa Monica, and crews are working on projects at LAX Airport and a confidential manufacturing facility in the South Bay. the same site when evaluating data obtained by Pulse Echo and Transient Response Methods of evaluating integrity. FHWA announced the availability of the new publications GEC 12 – Design and Construction of Driven Pile Foundations (FHWA-NHI-16-009/010) and companion Design and Construction of Driven Pile Foundations – Comprehensive Design Examples (FHWA-NHI-16-064). The guidance is developed following the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, 7th Ed., 2014 with 2015 Interim, and Sixth Street viaduct rendering (Credit: Michael Maltzan Architects) PDI offers an extensive line of products for quality assurance for deep foundations, including systems for the complementary methods mentioned in the ASTM revised Standard Test Method for Low Strain Impact Integrity Testing of Deep Foundations, D5882. The standard now encourages considering the soil profile, construction method, site records and results of tests on other foundations at AASHTO Construction Specifications, 3rd Ed., 2010, with 2011 through 2015 Interims. The publications are available for download from the Geotechnical page of the Office of Bridges and Structures website at www.fhwa.dot.gov/engineering/geotech. Hard copies are available to the public for purchase from the National Highway Institute at www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov. Ques-
