Strand East is a 26 acre (0.1 sq km) former industrial area in Stratford, East London, close to the Olympic Village of the 2012 Olympic Games. Along the banks of both rivers, the old river walls and embankments were replaced by a 1,045 m (3,428 ft) long stretch of new river wall, part of the London flood defence system. 63 Battered Pile Misconceptions Thomas D. Richards, Jr., P.E, D.GE There are a number of factors intrinsic to the design of battered piles which make them more or less effective in resisting lateral loads. This article presents some fundamental physics, reviews code rules, considers which batter is better, reviews methods to determine batter angles, and considers bending moments in battered piles in order to clarify when battered piles help resist lateral loads. Wolf Point, a 3.9 acre (15,782 sq m) site on the northeast side of the Y-shaped confluence of the north, south and main branches of the Chicago River, is considered prime development space. The first phase of the Wolf Point Development revolved around construction of a six-level parking structure located at the center of the site. Approximately 5,600 sq ft (520 sq m) of the garage would be built beneath an existing multi-span bridge, with some of the existing bridge pier shafts being incorporated into the final parking structure.
