Built for the 2016 Olympic Games, the 16 km (10 mi) subway line connects the south of the city, with the famous beaches Copacabana and Ipanema, to Barra da Tijuca, west of the city, where the Olympic Village and Park are located. Of all six new stations, Jardim de Alah was the most challenging to construct in a highly-dense urban environment including utilities, nearby buildings, traffic and noise limitations.
