Annual Gala Dinner On November 6, 2014, the DFI Educational Trust held its Annual Gala Fundraising Dinner at The Liberty House, in Jersey City, N.J. The net proceeds from the event support the DFI Trust Stanley Merjan Civil Engineering Scholarship at City College of New York (CCNY), the newly-established Women in Deep Foundations Program and the Trust’s general fund. The students were present at the event to receive the scholarship awards from DFI Trust chair, David Coleman. Coleman announced that the Stanley Merjan Scholarship reached its endowment goal of $200,000. Although additional dona- tions will be accepted, the fund will now disburse annual scholarships from invest- ment income alone. Dan Brown, P.E., Ph.D., D.GE, of Dan Brown and Associates, was the guest speaker. Brown’s presentation “Manage- ment of Risks in Foundation Construction and Design for Transportation Infra- structure Projects” discussed some risk components and included an overview of several case histories. Over 100 guests attended this year’s event, which raised more than $30,000 in net proceeds. More than 70 golfers attended the event and raised net proceeds of $40,000.
