Hart, P.E., D.GE, has joined the firm as an associate engineer. With experience in engineering analysis/design, quality assurance/control, estimating/plan takeoffs, plan/report preparation and construction conflict resolution, Hart has led a broad spectrum of technically challenging projects, including both commercial and residential construc-tion and land development. His work has extended throughout the Rocky Mountain region with emphasis on large structures in downtown Denver and the mountain resort communities of Colorado. Based in the firm’s Denver office, he has designed numerous earth retention and deep foundation systems. He earned B.S and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from West Virginia University. Hart is a member of the Ameri-can Society of Civil Engineers, the Associ-ation of Drilled Shaft Contractors and DFI, and also a former president of the Colorado Association of Geotechnical Engineers. The Shamsher Prakash Foundation is soliciting nominations (no application) for the 2012 Shamsher Prakash Prize for Excellence in Teaching of Geotechnical Engineering for teachers under 40 years old. The candidate’s area of expertise should be geotechnical engineering and/or geotechnical earthquake engineering. The candidate must have a record of teaching excellence. The Prize consists of US $1,100 and a plaque. The age may be relaxed in exceptional cases at the discretion of the judging committee. Nominations, which are due by October 31, 2012, will be reviewed by an international judging committee of experts from Canada, India, Japan, Ireland, the U.K. and the U.S. The award will be announced by December 31, 2012. Suitable arrangements will be made for awarding the Prize at an appropriate ceremony in the winner’s country of residence.
