New Compactors from Atlas Copco Atlas Copco now has six new hydraulic compactors designed for use on carriers in the 2,205- to 88,185-lb class. A key design feature is that the housing attachment is offset at 15 degrees, improving the force distribution on the vibrator plate while further reducing the stress and wear on the compactor. These compactors are virtually maintenance free, due to Atlas Copco’s PermaLube system, which keeps the bearing flooded with lubricating oil. The integrated control valve regulates hydraulic flow and pressure to prevent motor overload, particularly if compactors are used on different carriers. The hydraulic motors are protected by a regeneration feature that allows the unit to be connected to a uni-direction or bi-directional circuit. The new compactors are easy to attach; Atlas Copco HC 1050 hydraulic compactor no special mount is required for fitting to carriers. Atlas Copco can custom-make plate extensions to fit specific applications. Optional backfill blades make compactors easier to use: they level the way, enabling work to progress smoothly while deflecting material. The new compactors are ideal for compacting trenches, ground soil and embankments, as well as for driving and pulling formwork, posts and sheet piling. New PDI Accessories for ACIPs Pile Dynamics, Inc. has released new accessories and software for its Pile Installation Recorder (PIR): the PIR Viewer and a new version of the PIRPLOT data processing and reporting software. The PIR is automated monitoring equipment that records and displays grout volume versus depth, along with other parameters that help the construction of augered cast-in- place (ACIP) and continuous flight auger (CFA) piles. The PIR Viewer makes contractors more PDI’s PIR Viewer and PIRPLOT productive. It is a handheld WI-FI device that allows a supervisor or inspector to see, in real time, the information that the PIR is displaying to the operator in the crane cab. This enables the supervisor to stop the crane operator sooner in case there is a concern. In the past, the pile had to be completed and summary report generated before an inspector could review the installation details. The user of the PIR Viewer pushes of a button to flag when grout return occurs, and may use a logging feature to manually count grout pump strokes. Once the pile is completed this information may be compared to the PIR summary report. Post processing with PIRPLOT generates customizable presentation quality tables and graphs.
