Terri The Mansueto Library at the University of Chicago campus was a 2012 OPA runner- up. The automated storage and book retrieval system below ground required excavations as deep as 55 ft (17 m). The design-assist-build team developed the most cost-effective solution in the environment, a tied-back diaphragm wall. The William Eckhardt Research Center under construc- tion just west of the completed Mansueto Library also uses diaphragm wall construction. 44 Extreme Dam Repair Stefano Valagussa, Fabio Santillan and Vincent Jue New sensing and measurement technologies play a big role in the current $594 million rehabilitation of the Wolf Creek Dam in south-central Kentucky. In 2005, seepage concerns prompted the Army Corps of Engineers to relieve pressure on the dam by lowering the water level, and the current project should allow the water level to be raised again. The project began in 2008 and is expected to be completed in 2014. 51 International Cooperation Expands Energy Foundation Technology Sharon Boranyak Energy foundations continue to gain popularity worldwide.
