Changes for DFI Journal DFI has contracted with Maney Publishing, an independent publishing company specializing in journals in materials science and engineering, the humanities and health science, to publish the DFI Journal. The company publishes in print and electronic formats, and is international in scope and peer-reviewed. The partnership allows DFI to retain editorial control and ownership of the Journal, and continue producing a publication with practice-oriented papers. As we venture into new territory with Maney, our editorial board is transitioning as well. Dan Brown, Dan Brown and Associates, LLC (DBA) and Ali Porbaha, consultant and former professor at California State University have stepped down as two of the three lead co-editors. The third editor, Manny Fine, retired at the end of 2013. DFI thanks all three for their service since the Journal's inception in 2007. President Robert Bittner appointed Anne Lemnitzer, Ph.D., assistant professor of Structural/ Geotechnical Engineering at University of California and Timothy Siegel, P.E., G.E., D.GE, principal engineer at Dan Brown and Associates, LLC, as lead co-editors as of January 2014. Lemnitzer received her B.S. from the University of Applied Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, an M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering as a Fulbright Scholar at CSU Long Beach and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Structural/Earthquake Engineering from UCLA. Her research work focuses on soil-structure interaction of various bridge foundation systems and led to significant changes in the California bridge design (Caltran's Seismic Design Criteria). She serves as reviewer for several geotechnical journals and is an active committee member of DFI, EERI and ASCE. Siegel received both his B.S., Civil Engineering and M.S., Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from Georgia Institute of Technology. He began his career as a Geotechnical Consultant with S&ME, Inc. and then at Berkel & Company Contractors. He joined DBA in 2010. He also has served as adjunct faculty at The University of Tennessee since 2003. Siegel's expertise is in design analysis and construction of deep foundations including specialty foundations, slope stability and excavation stability analyses in soil and/or rock, geotechnical earthquake engineering and soil dynamics, engineering in karst terrain and ground improvement techniques. Previous lead co-editor, Zia Zafir, Ph.D., G.E., of Kleinfelder in Sacramento, Calif., who served with Brown and Porhaba, will remain on the Journal's editorial board. Antonio Marinucci, Ph.D., P.E., director of sales and research at American Equipment and Fabricating, as well as Thomas Weaver, Ph.D., P.E., of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, previous junior editor, will also serve on the 2014 editorial board. Additional DFI members will be added to the board before the first Journal of 2014 is released to ensure that expertise is available for reviewing papers in all the technology areas that DFI covers. Their names will be announced in the March/April issue of the magazine. DEEP FOUNDATIONS • JAN/FEB 2014 • 33
