Schnabel Engineering, Inc. (Schnabel), Rock- ville, Md., promoted Dr. Mohammed Nasim, P.E., to senior associate. He is the operations and busi- ness development manager for Schnabel’s geostructural group in the Maryland office. Nasim has field, project engineering and management experience for varied projects in the U. S., Far East and Southeast Asia. Nasim has performed site-specific seismic hazard assessments for many projects, including dams, waterfront structures, embankments and bridges and U.S. government buildings abroad. Lachel & Associates, Inc., a subsidiary of Schnabel Engineer ing, added Kumar Bhattarai, P.E. to the firm. Bhattarai brings 18 years of experience in design, risk assessment, project manage- ment and procurement management for tunnel and large infrastructure projects in the U.S., Canada, Russia and the Far East. His experience includes work on many phases of transportation, rail and water/wastewater tunnel projects. Bhattarai received his M.S. from the University of Hong Kong, and is currently a licensed P. E. in Texas, Washington and British Columbia. He is based in Lachel’s Dallas, Texas, office. Chris Ryan, president of Geo-Solutions Inc., is re- ducing his responsibilities for day-to-day operations, stepping down as presi- dent, and moving to a new role as chairman of the board. Ryan founded Geo-Solutions in 1996. The company has grown from a startup to dominant player in the geo-environmental construction indus- try on sites around the U.S. and the world with expected revenues of over $35 million in 2012. Bob Schindler succeeded Ryan as the company’s president, effective January 1, 2013. Ryan will continue to work on relationships with clients, and will con- tribute technical and managerial support as needed on Geo-Solutions projects. The revitalized PDCA (Pile Driving Contractors Association), Northeast Chapter met in December and announced new trustees and board members. The group made plans for the next several months, including scheduling speakers who will benefit contractors and engineers.
