PEOPLE & COMPANIES Atlas Copco Secoroc LLC has acquired U.S.-based NewTech Drilling Products, LLC. The acquisition adds a new type of product to the Swedish industrial group’s offering for oil and gas drilling. Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, NewTech develops and manufactures drilling products with a focus on rotary PDC (polycrystalline diamond compact) drill bits, are particularly suited to shallow, land-based drilling applications. NewTech, privately owned, currently employs 20 people. Bob Fassl, business area president, Atlas Copco Mining and Rock Excavation Technique expects to combine NewTech’s product development competence with the Atlas Copco brand and global reach. Roni Bobnar is the new service center manager at Atlas Copco Construction Equipment in Indepen- dence, Ohio. Bobnar pre- viously held the role of service administrator and acting service center manager for service operations at the Ohio location. She joined the Atlas Copco Group in 2005 as a customer service representative with A Constructions Tools, and has worked with the construction industry since 1979. Atlas Copco again fared well in several prestigious rankings of the world’s largest manufacturers. The company earned its highest marks in the areas of innovation, sustainabi l i ty and environmental responsibility. Atlas Copco was included by Forbes in its list of the world’s most innovative companies. Dow Jones selected At las Copco for i t s 2012/2013 sustainability index, and Newsweek magazine included the firm in its Green Ranking of global companies. Atlas Copco had placed in all three lists the year before. Michael Calendar is a new service center manager for Atlas Copco Construction Equipment in Cov ing ton, Ga . Calendar previously served in the technical support role for Atlas Copco Construction Equipment. He came to the firm in 1995 as a service technician with Atlas Copco Rental, taking care of customers in Puerto Rico. He held other technical positions with Atlas Copco Industrial Compressors and Atlas Copco Construction Equipment. Jacobs Associates announces four promo- tions to the associate level. Bob Baldwin, CCM, Assoc. DBIA, works in the Seattle office, and his diverse background includes project management for developers, contractors and large public owners, as well as providing project controls software consulting services. Jennifer Jordan, P.E., in the Jacobs Assoc- iates Boston office, spe- cializes in geotechnical and tunnel engineering of d e e p u n d e r g ro u n d structures. She currently serves as senior geotechnical engineer for DC Water’s Clean Rivers Project. Laura Miles, P.E., is a construc- tion claims specialist, located in the Portland office and currently provides consul t ing services to both owners and contractors for the resolution of contractual disputes. Joe Schrank, P.E., P.Eng., has 12 years of experience in rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering. He works in the Seattle office, and served as task manager for the tunnel modifications design for 10 railroad tunnels in the CSX National Gateway Clearance Improvement Project Phase 1. 86 • DEEP FOUNDATIONS • JAN/FEB 2013 Sam Swartz, P.E., an associate in the Seattle office of Jacobs Associates, is the 2012 recipient of the James Wilton Award. This award honors the memory of James Wilton, former principal and president of Jacobs Associates and recognizes the accomplishments and contributions made by the firm’s employees; acknowledging their innova- tions, implemented into either a Jacobs Associates project or our business oper- ations and demonstrating an individual’s commitment to quality and excellence at the firm. Swartz received the award at the firm’s 2012 management meeting in Lafayette, Calif., in November. He is currently providing design support services during construction for Sound Transit’s University Link Light Rail project as well as acting as senior reviewer on Sound Transit’s final design of the Northgate Link Extension, both in Seattle, Wash. Schnabel Engineering’s first New York state office opened in the Capital District region, in Clifton Park, N.Y. The office focuses on dams, and local personnel specialize in dam and water resources engineering. Schnabel’s geotechnical, geostructural and tunnel engineering services are also available to clients. Dr. Gregory Daviero manages the office. For over 20 years he has applied his expertise in water resource engineering, hydraulic design, and hydraulic and hydrologic analyses for Schnabel. Daviero has a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Hydraulics and Water Resources from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is joined by Kevin Ruswick who has 18 years of experience in water resources and dam engineering, provides experience in all phases of water resources related projects. Ruswick earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Northwestern University and an M.S. in Water Resources Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
