Fourth Annual Osterberg Memorial Dinner Dan Brown, Ph.D, president of Dan Brown and Associates, was the annual Osterberg Memorial Lecturer at the event held at the Sheraton Denver West Hotel in Lakewood, Colo. Brown’s presentation was entitled “Experiences with the Osterberg Cell Load Ben C. Gerwick Award Dinner Held in December The Ben C. Gerwick Award for Innovation in the Design and Construction of Marine Foundations will be presented during the Annual Marine Foundation Seminar, December 5-7, in Norfolk, Va. The award is presented annually to an individual, team or company, and pays tribute to Ben Gerwick, financial data about the organization to potential donors as well information on how to support the Trust through its various fundraising activities. Thanks to Daniel Dragone of Bauer- Pileco for making the services of his company’s Marketing Communications person, Ty Weaver, available on a pro bono basis to the Trust to create and develop the website. We also thank Ty for his great work and dedication to this project. DFI Educational Trust Welcomes New Administrator Emilio S. Fandino joined DFI as administrator of the DFI Educational Trust in July. Emilio has an extensive background in nonprofit administration, having served for nearly 20 years as the executive director of the Hispanic Institute, a N.J.-based nonprofit educational organization. In addition, he has served on the boards of many nonprofits, including organizations engaged in education, health, the arts and social services. Prior to his nonprofit career, Emilio was engaged in private law practice for several years. He holds a B.A. and a J.D. from Seton Hall University. Emilio is bilingual English/Spanish and conversant in French, Italian and Portuguese. He resides in Ridgewood, N.J. Theresa Rappaport presents plaque to Dan Brown Testing Method.” At the conclusion of his lecture, he received a plaque from DFI executive director, Theresa Rappaport. Among the attendees were Jorj O. Osterberg’s daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Gene Jurado. Jack Hayes, of Loadtest, reminisced about Dr. Osterberg and his contributions to the industry. The Annual Osterberg Memorial Lecture and Award was established in honor of Dr. Jorj O. Osterberg, one of the true pioneers of geotechnical engineering, to recognize innovations in the deep foun- dations construction related to engineering design, testing or education; all aspects of recognizing his innovative spirit and his many contributions to the design and construction of marine foundations. DFI Educational Trust Unveils New Website The DFI Educational Trust is pleased to announce that it now has an independent website at www.dfitrust.org. The site includes extensive information on the Trust’s activities including its scholarship programs, paper competitions and lecture series. In addition, it presents Emilio S.
